Tips & recommendations

Magnolia Plantation is the wedding venue in Charleston that I photograph the most weddings at every year. For the best getting bridal preparation pictures, be sure to get ready at an off-site location such as a hotel downtown or an Airbnb with lots of light and space. The bridal suite at Magnolia Plantation is functional but very small and dark inside. I highly recommend seeing each other before the ceremony to maximize the pictures we can take on site. I absolutely love doing the first look pictures on the Avenue of Oaks in front of the Verdana House. Some of my previous clients have also done first look pictures downtown Charleston for some added variety in their pictures. This works great too. 

The best time of year for azaleas and wisteria is the middle to end of March. The blooming azaleas in the photos above was a wedding on March 29, 2019. Obviously, this will vary from year to year but the middle to end of March will be your best chance to get these vibrant florals.

For reception spaces, I love it when couples have the dance floor outside on the patio instead of inside the Carriage House. This always works out so much better because of the increased space and the open air environment. I've also seen couples do a tent on the patio as well.
